Writing your book while RVing, I Think, is a pretty sweet deal. You are generally in a campsite somewhere out in the country with little to no distractions. If you get bored with the view you just move to another place down the road or in another state. Florida has many places that you can pull your RV/Camper into for about $20 to $40 per day and some even have less expensive weekly and monthly rates. You do not want to be anywhere south of Ocala during the high season (October to March) though. It is way more expensive and very difficult to get a reservation. In the northeast and northwest parts of Florida, you may have better luck and less expensive options. Of course, if you are lucky and have a piece of land somewhere (or a friend/family member) that is set up for an RV space then you can just go there for a while. The main idea though is to have space all your own that you can up and move whenever the mood strikes.
Of course, if you are doing research for your book and need to be in a certain area for a month or two getting a campsite in the area could be ideal. Most of them have water/electric on site to power your computer and other necessary items. If you are very lucky they will have sewer on site and a lovely bathhouse to use. Some will provide Internet access but we recommend that you pay for your own like Verizon MIFI, if you can. They reach more out-of-the-way places than most of the other carriers. Of course, you can always opt for satellite but, then again, you will have to worry about coverage if you need the internet as well as the cost. If you are pinching pennies you can always go into town and use the local libraries WIFI as most everyone has that service now.
We volunteer at the public land areas around the state, state parks, national forests, and county parks. Most allow us to stay 2 to 4 months at a time, will provide the water, electric, sewer and sometimes internet in exchange for 20 hours per week of work like cleaning bathhouses, emptying trash, picking up trash, opening and closing the public gates, etc. The rest of the time is yours to do with as you like and you don’t have to pay for the campsite. This is great if you have another source of income or your books are selling enough to support your basic needs, like food, drinks, gas, etc.
There is a long list of writers out there who hit the road and manage to write, publish and even market their books. We wrote an article on our travel adventure site. Check it out: http://southernladiesadventures.com/rving-authors/
