Two For the Price of One Book Reviews

4 min read

This post you are getting Two for the Pice of One Book Reviews because they have set me up with a lovely cozy mystery book set in Cornwall, England by a UK Author. The second review is a wee bit late. The author was kind enough to send the second book in her series to review and I read it but forgot to complete the review process.

The Rockpool Murder is set, of course, in Cornwall. This couple of private eyes are a nice balance of a not quite so young, single lady who is extremely intelligent but somewhat set in her ways and a younger married man who have joined forces to solve the various crimes around this sea-side tourist town. I have not read the first two books in the series yet, but this story can and does stand alone. The characters are well-written, and the scenery descriptions are excellent. Sometimes you feel the spray of the ocean and the sun on your face as you listen to the sea birds. The cozy mystery part is done well too. The only downside I had with the storyline is some of the suspects seem to behave a little bit too ‘over-the-top’ for my tastes but, then again, that’s Rock-N-Roll people for you. Give it a go.

Author Emylia Hall of England

Emylia Hall lives in Bristol with her husband and son where she writes from a hut in the garden and dreams of the sea. The Shell House Detectives is the first novel in her new crime series, following the exploits of sleuthing duo Ally and Jayden and the people in and around the fictional village of Porthpella. On release it was a Kindle Top 10 bestseller, and the rights have been optioned for TV by Playground Entertainment. The Harbour Lights Mystery – the second book in The Shell House Mystery series – was published in October 2023, with The Rockpool Murder to follow in Spring 2024. Described as Contemporary Cosy Crime, the series is inspired by her love of Cornwall’s wild landscape.

Currents of BlueCurrents of Blue by Sharon Brubaker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I truly love to read historical fiction set in the early 1900s. This is a generational romance set during World War I and the beginnings of the Vietnam War. All wars wreck havoc with family, friends and loved-ones, and each has their own unique set of tragedies. Mrs. Brubaker has three books in this series, and “Currents of Blue” is the second book. I read the first one and enjoy it so I thought I would give the second one a try.

Each story gets better and better. Give her a try if you like the split personality of in the past and the “current” love stories unfolding. It might make you feel as if you are see-sawing through time but the writer keeps you where you need to be until you jump back or forward in the next chapter. I enjoyed it and hope you will too.
