Can You Market Your Books While RVing
Marketing while RVing can be a bit of a challenge but you can also look at is a being an advantage as well. Each argument for can also be an argument against. One you are traveling all the time (most of us are anyway) so it’s very hard to line up places where you can market your book as well as having the internet connections to keep you with your fans and post updates to your website. Yes, you are traveling all over the place and with a little bit of organizing you can plan your trips around places that will allow you to come and market your book. Look online to the towns you will be staying in or close to in your travels. See if they have a bookstore that would be willing to allow you to schedule a book signing event. You will want to coordinate this at least a couple months in advance so that they have time to advertise.
You can also participate in RV rallies as a published author on the road. During the spring and summer months, there are all kinds of RV rallies up north and out west in private campgrounds as well as state and national ones. Most advertise for vendors at least a couple months in advance and if you are planning to be in the area any way you might as well sell a couple of books while you are at it. Some state park event coordinators might even like the suggestion of having local and visiting authors to spend a day in their park talking about their books and bringing in more people to the park.
During the late fall and winter months, most of the RVers head south to Arizona and Florida. Being from Florida I know that a lot of local, state and national parks in our area schedule events for RVers and would love to have an event or two centered around local writers. If you can get a few of your fellow RVing authors, who were planning to be in the area anyway, to participate with you then most parks would love to include you all as well. Planning and Coordinating are the keys to any good marketing strategy.
Some Last Pearls of Wisdom
While you are on the road it is very important for any writer to have good internet service. Granted, a lot of the time you may want to camp where there is no one around to enjoy the peace and quiet. But you are going to either have a great satellite service or are going to have to go into town at least once a week to check your email, post on your social media accounts and even schedule upcoming marketing events.
Granted cell service is reaching more remote areas than ever before but not all areas. We use Verizon because they seem to cover more of the areas that we travel and stay in. Out west though coverage is still pretty spotty. Most public libraries will allow you free access to the internet with your laptop so, again, look up their locations before you go into a remote area.
