We Are Official in Columbia County

I’m Official! My First Business License for my new LLC. Now all I have to do is get some letterhead made up and finish applying for all those pesky business things like tax numbers (which I now have), establish business credit through vendors, etc. Even writers who self-publish should treat their writing career as a business. You may not need a Business License to sell your books at local festivals, bookstores, etc. but you will need a Florida Sales Tax license. Those can be gotten FREE and online with the Florida Department of Revenue. Then you just file quarterly returns. DO NOT MISS a quarter even if you don’t make any money at all because they will fine you $50 and suspend your account. Just saying.

For all my small business people out there or for those who want to be you will have to go to whichever county you intend to business in and apply for a Business Tax Receipt in Florida which use to be called a Business Or Occupational License. The fees are based on the number of employees, whether or not you have a physical storefront or office, and what kinds of things you will be selling. Even if you are a business of 1 selling services and not physical goods you have to a “Business Tax Receipt” paid every year in September. Most counties only charge like $30 for the year. Go to the city/counties Tax Collectors Office website for more information.
