Hello, to all my fellow North Florida writers out there. There are so few opportunities lately for us to get together with our fans/readers in person. Now it’s all about the digital platform. The annual Sunshine State Book Festival sponsored by the Writers Alliance of Gainesville is turning their event into a six months love fest with all of it’s participating published writers. They are inviting ANY published author to sign up on the website by December 15, 2020. You DO NOT have to be a member of WAG.
Then you have 2 to 3 weeks to create a 5 to 15-minute video addressed to your fans about you, your writing, your books, and what you might be working on in the future. They have created a profile page for each writer with links to their books on Amazon and a brief bio with your professional publicity photo. The videos will not be available to the public until January 30, 2021, and will remain on that website for six months! After 6 months you can use the video on your own website or edit it for future commercials if you like.
Recently, I received information that WAG will be hiring a publicity firm to promote the event before and continue promotions for the rest of the six months afterward. They are not charging the author entrance fees this time either. You will have to pay to have the video created and there is a listing of the requirements on the website as well. It is fairly straightforward and there are links to local videographers (myself included) who can do the video for you. If you would prefer to do it yourself there are lots and lots of instructional videos on YouTube for you to view and use. All you really need is nice lighting, a quiet place, and a smartphone with a decent camera. Then there will probably be some editing to be done after that.

I have done a few of these for my clients and one for myself and already submitted them. One was done completely with a green screen so that I could through up another background that went with the book. Another author filmed her morning routine on her farm where and when she gets most of the ideas from and then had the voice actress for the audiobooks to record herself reading from one of the books. Another filmed her entire presentation at her beach house where she goes to get away and get some writing done. I filmed myself at one of the state parks featured in the book. There are so many ways you can get creative with your video, bring in your readers, and be different from every other author on the panel!
